About the Organization

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent, science-based nonprofit that combines rigorous technical analysis and public advocacy to promote evidence-based solutions to pressing problems such as climate change, clean energy transition, safe and responsible nuclear policy, sustainable transportation, and the integrity of science in public decision-making.

Policy Goals

Climate and clean energy policy; decarbonization and energy efficiency; sustainable transportation and clean vehicle standards; nuclear safety, arms control, and nonproliferation; research integrity and use of scientific evidence in policymaking; public health, environmental protection, and environmental justice.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations, membership contributions, and grants from private foundations and philanthropic donors, supplemented by program service revenue.

Affiliates

UCS Action Fund (its affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy arm) and frequent collaborators among environmental and public-interest groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, and Environmental Defense Fund.
