The Washington Association for Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention (WASAVP) is a statewide membership organization that unites prevention professionals, coalitions, and public health practitioners to advance community-level strategies that reduce substance misuse and interpersonal violence and promote safe, healthy Washington communities.
Advocacy for sustained state and local funding for community-based prevention and early intervention; policies to restrict and regulate youth access to cannabis, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping products; integration of prevention and public health in education and community settings; support for evidence-based programs, prevention infrastructure, and harm-reduction strategies related to substance-impaired driving, mental health, and community safety.
Primarily membership dues (including memberships paid from public prevention funding streams), supplemented by small private grants, donations, training fees, and volunteer support.
Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council (GSSAC), Community Network Services, Prevention Voices WA, Art & Science of Community Organizing (ASCOT); prominent individuals on the board and leadership include Linda Thompson, Steve Freng, Priscilla Lisicich, and Scott Waller.
