The Washington Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (WACME) is a professional membership organization of county coroners, medical examiners, deputies and medicolegal death investigators in Washington State. WACME promotes best practices, accreditation, training, interagency communication and policy advocacy to improve the quality, timeliness and consistency of death investigation and related public health reporting.
Supports policies that fund and sustain medicolegal death investigation capacity (toxicology, forensic pathology, staffing), establish and maintain accreditation and practice standards, improve death certification and data sharing for public health surveillance, enable training and workforce development, and promote interagency coordination for violent, accidental and unexplained deaths.
Primarily funded by membership dues and fees (conference and training), occasional grants and contracts (state or federal), sponsorships and contributions from county governments and partner organizations.
