The Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is the state-level professional organization representing pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists in Washington. It advances child and adolescent health through clinical education, public-health guidance, advocacy, and community outreach, and issues policy statements and recommendations on pediatric care and child welfare.
Advocacy for pediatric public health and preventive care, Medicaid/CHIP and children’s health coverage, immunization policy, school and adolescent health, mental and behavioral health services for youth, injury and violence prevention, environmental health (lead, air quality), early childhood development and maternal-child health, and policies to improve access to pediatric specialty care.
Primarily funded by member dues, conference and continuing-education fees, grants and philanthropic contributions, and occasional sponsorships or restricted program funding.
American Academy of Pediatrics (national), other state AAP chapters, Washington State Department of Health, major pediatric hospitals and academic pediatrics programs in Washington such as Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics, and state medical and public-health organizations.
