About the Organization

The Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) is the statewide membership association for Washington’s locally elected school board members. Established by statute and founded in 1922, WSSDA provides leadership development, policy and legal resources, and advocacy to strengthen local school governance and advance student success across K–12 public schools.

Policy Goals

Typically advocates on K–12 education issues including school governance and board training, state school finance and levy policy, student safety and discipline, educational equity and access, special education and student services, policy and legal compliance (Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act), educator professional development and workforce issues, and facilities and capital funding.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues paid by Washington school districts (dues set on a sliding scale based on certificated personnel), supplemented by fees for services, training, and publications.

Affiliates

Works closely with the National School Boards Association (NSBA), the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA), Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP), Educational Service Districts (ESDs), and other statewide education stakeholders.
