Description: Whitman-Walker Institute is the research, training, policy and public-health arm of Whitman-Walker Health, a Washington, D.C.-based community health organization. It advances sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention and care, behavioral health, and health equity for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV through applied research, program development, community education, and policy advocacy. Type: Non-profit (healthcare/501(c)(3)) Policies: Promotes expanded access to HIV prevention and treatment (including PrEP and ART), LGBTQ+ health equity and anti-discrimination protections, Medicaid and insurance coverage for sexual and behavioral health services, harm reduction and overdose prevention, public-health workforce training, and evidence-based public health research and evaluation. Funding: Funded through a mix of patient service revenue and insurance reimbursements, federal and state public-health and HIV/AIDS grants, foundation and philanthropic grants, and individual donations. Affiliates: Whitman-Walker Health (the parent community health center), partnerships with the District of Columbia Department of Health and other local public-health agencies, and collaborative relationships with national public-health and HIV/AIDS service organizations.
