Founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King, the Women’s Sports Foundation is a nonprofit organization that advances the lives of girls and women through sport and physical activity by promoting equitable opportunities, conducting research, providing grants and programs, and advocating for policy change to remove barriers to participation and leadership in sport.
Advocacy for gender equity in sport including Title IX enforcement, equitable funding and access for girls and women, expanded opportunities in youth and community sports, leadership and coaching pathways for women, athlete health and safety, fair media coverage and sponsorship, and anti-discrimination measures including protections for LGBTQ+ athletes.
Primarily supported by individual donations, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events, and program fees.
