YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) is the national nonprofit federation that supports and represents local YMCAs across the United States. Its stated mission is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility by providing program standards, training, advocacy, and national initiatives that local YMCAs deliver on the ground.
Typically pursues policies that expand access to early childhood education and child care, afterschool and youth development programs, public health and preventive health initiatives (including fitness and chronic disease prevention), affordable community services, workforce development, disaster response and recovery, housing and homelessness support, and equity and inclusion in community services; also advocates for public funding and public–private partnerships that support local YMCA programs.
Primarily funded through a combination of local YMCA membership dues and program fees, philanthropic contributions and fundraising, grants from foundations and government sources, corporate sponsorships, and investments/endowment income managed at the national and local levels.
A nationwide network of local YMCA associations and branches, the national YMCA foundation and program offices, and partnerships with organizations such as United Way, the American Red Cross, K–12 school districts and various corporate and philanthropic partners.
