About the Organization

The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights is a national human rights organization that protects and advances the rights and best interests of unaccompanied and separated immigrant children in the United States. It provides independent Child Advocates, including volunteer advocates supervised by attorneys and social workers, to represent children’s best interests in immigration proceedings and custody decisions, and works to promote a child-centered immigration system consistent with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and U.S. law.

Policy Goals

Immigration and child welfare policy, including protections for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children, best-interests standards in immigration proceedings, alternatives to detention, access to counsel, anti-trafficking protections under the Trafficking Victims Reauthorization Act, and reforms to create a dedicated juvenile immigrant justice system.

Funding

Primarily philanthropic donations, foundation grants, and government grants and contracts, including federal funding related to child advocacy services.

Affiliates

Works with volunteer Child Advocates nationwide and collaborates with immigration legal service providers; Executive Director Maria Woltjen.
